Coffee grounds have always been popular to be reused as a truly eco-friendly option, but did you ever consider wearing them as clothing? The new concept that is making its way forward is a clothing line that is based on coffee grounds as materials, and it is manufactured in Taiwan. The creator of this clothing line is Jason Chen, and he does claim to have been inspired while he was having a cup of Joe at his local Starbucks.


It would only make sense that coffee would infiltrate the world in the same way that Starbucks has, making it a fantastic option to be used in any setting. For instance, you can currently recycle used coffee grounds in a variety of ways, including to clean your kitchen, to reduce odors, or even to exfoliate your face. Coffee grounds can be our best friends, and what better way to use them then within a clothing line? Currently, this line is using coffee grounds as materials within their sportswear collection, and they say that the fabric is soft and light so it is easy to wear. They have designed it in a way to be breathable and flexible, especially since it is a sportswear clothing line. They have also created an outer shell on the fabric that is resistant to water. They impregnated the fabric with an activated carbon that was extracted from coconuts, so it is UV resistant and pulls water away from the body so that you can stay cool and not be drenched with sweat. This will also work to keep you smelling fresh when you are working out since the moisture will be directly pulled away from your body as you are sweating. Currently, this fantastic clothing line uses roughly 1 cup of ground coffee to make several items within their line, focusing on active wear.

This clothing line is completely eco-friendly, and it is a fantastic choice for any of your work out clothing items. Since used coffee grounds are normally found in landfills all over the United States, this is the perfect way to make a use of these discarded substances. This is a far more effective way to use your coffee grounds then just keeping them for fertilizer because they will be directly integrated into your apparel. The fabric is a material with viscosity that also uses bamboo, and it is recommended to be layered for your work out wear. The creator of this line does recommend that you use this type of clothing for outdoor activities like running, rock climbing, or even yoga.

Currently, Jason Chen's clothing manufacturing line, Singtex, does already make other types of eco-friendly clothing from recycled plastic bottles. However, they have taken it to the next level by including used coffee grounds within their current fabric construction. These are wonderful organic ideas to keep an eye out for when you're looking for green clothing choices, and the only downside I can think of is that they don't give you a caffeine buzz simply from wearing them! Wouldn't that be nice?
